Heather Roberts Biography
Heather Roberts has performed professionally as an opera, operetta, oratorio, and art song singer. The online magazine Concertonet.com raves: Ms. Roberts is "...riveting...she has an enormous and powerful voice...truly thrilling..." Her most recent operatic performances for 2011 on the East Coast include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Ms. Roberts was described by the Baltimore Sun as a "...delectable Witch..." in Hansel and Gretel. Upcoming roles for the 2011-2012 season include the Witch in Hansel and Gretel for Opera Camerata in Washington DC, Giannetta in L'Elisir D'Amore (New York Lyric Opera Theatre), Suzuki (Regina Opera), and Alma March in Little Women (Chesapeake Chamber Opera). In addition, performances in the Philadelphia area include Tigrana in Puccini's Edgar, Anne Boleyn in Saint-Saens' Henry the VIII, La Cieca in Ponchielli's La Gioconda, and Carmela in Wolf-Ferrari's Jewels of The Madonna. Other operatic performances include Tigrana (Edgar, 4-Act Lucca version, United States premiere, MD), Rose (The Promise, world premiere, Portland, OR), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly, VA), Florence (Albert Herring, Bel Canto Vocal Institute Northwest, OR), Mother (Amahl and The Night Visitors, MD), Giannetta (L'Elisir D'Amore, MI), Cenerentola (Pine Mountain Music Festival under the direction of Christopher Mattaliano and Stephen Sulich), Flora (La Traviata, MD), Stephano and Gertrude (Romeo and Juliette, MD), and the title role in Carmen (Guest artist for the Lewis and Clark College, OR). In operetta, Heather Roberts sang with the Savoy-Aires Gilbert and Sullivan Company in Chicago (Pitti-Sing and Peep-Bo in The Mikado, Cousin Hebe in H.M.S. Pinafore, and Ms. Roberts was also the conductor for various outgoing performances).
Her concert performances include east coast regional soloing and benefit recitals to help promote pediatric cancer research. In the Fall of 2010, Ms. Roberts sang for the Gilda's Club in Philadelphia and then went on to sing for the Neuroblastoma Alliance Foundation's annual fundraiser in Vermont. Other concert performances have included solo work in Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Haydn's Creation with the Honolulu Symphony under the direction of Samuel Wong. She also sang Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Schubert's Mass in G, and Mozart's Litaniae Lauretanae in D Major with the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble among others. In addition Ms. Roberts has performed in multiple venues presenting a musical review compiled of "favorite oldies", musical theater songs, arias, and art songs.
Art song holds a special place in Ms. Roberts' heart. Heather Roberts was the winner of the Hawaii Public Radio Art Song Contest and performed a live broadcasted winner's recital for the radio station. She was also a finalist in the Art Song Discovery Concert Series 2009-2010 for the Vocal Arts Society in the DC metro area. She finished recording her first album Perspectives with Melodic Dog Productions in May 2010. The album is a pairing of eight lesser known pieces called The Confession Stone by Robert Fleming and Pergolesi's complete Stabat Mater. She is also working to create an album including fabulous art songs about animals by American composers that would appeal especially to our younger audiences! She holds a Music Education degree with a vocal and piano emphasis from the Wheaton College Conservatory in Illinois. Ms. Roberts has directed and developed programs for children's choirs, youth choirs, and musical theater including singers age four through high school that focus on appropriate vocal health and development in Oregon, Illinois, the DC metro area, and now New York City!
